Opera in Volo is a production-based opera company for advanced singers ready to work at a professional level. We bring exceptional artists together with a professional orchestra, experienced international directors, and rigorous Stanislavski-based dramatic training to mount fully staged productions under real-world company conditions.
The Company Model
Our work is built around the production itself. From the first rehearsal, you are a member of a company: you rehearse on a professional schedule, collaborate with a conductor and orchestra who know how to support the voice from the instrumental side, and perform a principal role in a fully realized staging. The standards are those of the working stage: preparation, punctuality, and artistic accountability.
Psychological Realism & the Stanislavsky Method
Great opera is great theater first. We train singers to set aside operatic cliché and approach each character with psychological realism, clear objectives, subtext, and emotional integrity. Dramatic work is not an add-on to the music here. It is woven through every rehearsal, so that the voice and the character are shaped together.
The Opera in Volo Experience
Opera in Volo is designed for artists who have completed their foundational training and are ready for the next step. Unlike a traditional young artist program centered on lessons and coaching, our program is centered on the production: you rehearse, stage, and perform with a professional orchestra, and you leave with a substantial performance experience, professional recordings and photographs, and a deeper command of your craft.
Participation & Funding
Opera in Volo is a participant-funded company. Artists contribute a participation fee toward the cost of the production, which allows us to engage a professional orchestra, directing and coaching staff, and internationally-acclaimed staging, none of which we are willing to scale back.
We want to be plain about what this is: singers are not engaged as salaried employees, and we do not present participation as paid work. What we offer is the opportunity to perform a principal role in a fully realized production, with the resources and discipline of a professional company, in an environment built entirely around your growth as an artist.
